S.S. White’s precision-engineered flexible shafts are trusted across a wide range of medical devices where accuracy, reliability, and miniaturization are critical. From powering biopsy needles through narrow probes to enabling non-magnetic drug delivery systems for MRI environments, our shafts deliver precise rotary motion where traditional components fall short. In LASIK corneal flap makers, dual flexible shafts control both blade oscillation and positioning for highly accurate procedures. They’re also essential in orthopedic surgical tools, giving surgeons access to tight or complex spaces with confidence and control.
Other Medical Applications:
Flexible Shafts in Medical Applications
We create best-in-class shaft coupling designs catering to the needs of the medical industry.
Drives needle actuators with pinpoint precision, allowing minimally invasive tissue sampling.
Powers the dual-motion blades that create corneal flaps for laser vision correction.
Uses non-magnetic shafts to safely transmit rotary motion in magnet-sensitive environments.
Flexible screwdrivers and drills used in orthopedic, laparoscopic, and cardiovascular procedures.
Enables smooth, controlled motion in high-precision tools.
Delivers rotary control to inject contrast fluid with accuracy during imaging.
Powers tools that require precision under extreme spatial constraints.
S.S. White Engineering can work with OEMs to devise bespoke solutions for specific instruments, tools, and device applications alike.
S.S. White operates in the medical market with highly specialized flexible shaft products for surgical and testing procedures, as well as its own branded line of Shukla Medical surgical instruments for the removal of orthopedic implants.
These products are created through close collaboration with Shukla Medical engineers and leading surgeons in the field. These cross-functional teams work together in the surgical suite and cadaver labs to refine the concepts behind these instruments and improve the techniques for their use.
In 1998, S.S. White acquired the medical product division of SnapOn Tools and renamed it S.S. White Medical Products. Then, in 2007, it rebranded as Shukla Medical. Today, Shukla Medical is the industry leader in orthopedic implant extraction tools.
